Charles Rayburn Ryan, 41, Harrisburg, has been charged with two counts of first degree murder in the stabbing death of his stepfather, Carl L. Crouch, 59, Harrisburg, according to a bill of information provided by the Saline County State's Attorney's Office.

Authorities are being mysteriously silent on the death of Crouch who was found in the home the two shared at 1304 W. Barnett St.

Inquiries to the state's attorney's office have been answered only through a fax of the bills of information on the charges. The first bill of information states Ryan is believed to have choked and stabbed Crouch in the neck with a knife, causing his death. The second states Ryan is believed to have choked and stabbed Crouch knowing such acts created a strong probability of death of great bodily harm to Crouch, thereby causing Crouch's death.

Ryan had not yet had a first appearance as of this morning.

Illinois State Police investigator Bryan Harms arrested Ryan 7:45 a.m. Dec. 24 on a charge of murder following a 4 a.m. interview. He remains held at the Saline County Detention Center on $100,000 cash bond.

It is not clear how Ryan became a suspect, how or where he was apprehended and what events preceded the incident.

An autopsy was performed on Crouch, according to deputy coroner Shawn Watson that confirmed Crouch's death was the result of stabbing, Watson said. He would not comment on the nature of the injury or injuries.

Harrisburg Police called Watson to the scene. Chief Bob Smith directed all media inquiries to the Saline County State's Attorney's Office and State's Attorney Mike Henshaw is out of town.

Assistant State's Attorney Jason Olson filed the bills of information.

A woman at the 1304 W. Barnett St. address told the reporter to leave the area.
