Seventh and eigth graders at CJHS will be selling Otis Spunkmeyer cookie and pretzel dough through February 16 in an effort to raise funds for Smart Boards. If the students come up with $20,000 in ‘dough’ Dr. Gayle Crawford (above) has promised to spend the school day conducting business from the roof.

Central Junior High Principal Dr. V. Gayle Crawford has issued a challenge to her seventh and eighth-grade student body.  Reach the lofty goal set for the school's current fundraiser and enjoy a day watching the principal conduct business as usual—from a makeshift office on the school's roof.

Starting this past Friday and and running through Tuesday, February 16, Crawford's junior high students will be taking part in a fundraiser to raise money to purchase several Smart Boards for use in classrooms, as well as equipment for the school's playground.  The students will be selling Otis Spunkmeyer cookie and pretzel dough and also brownie trays in hopes reaching the $20,000 goal to send Crawford to the roof for the day.

"If the student's raise the money, I plan on carrying out my usual business day from the roof—with a few possible meetings with teachers," said the principal with a laugh.  "We're just going to have fun with it.  It's something they did years ago when I first started and Linda Varis was the principal and it seemed to really work out well."

In addition to the rooftop administrative work, if the student body reaches the $20K benchmark, they are set to receive 45 percent, or a whopping $9,000, in return.  Crawford said the hefty sum will be used purchase cutting-edge interactive whiteboards known as Smart Boards, which retail for $2,500-$3,000 each.
