Saline County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a rural Harrisburg man after striking a deputy in the nose with a board in the Liberty area, just west of Harrisburg.
Deputies arrested Eugene Roy Hughes, 50, 275 Gibbons Road, Harrisburg, 10:05 p.m. Jan. 5 on charges of domestic battery, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, aggravated battery and trespass. He remains held at the Saline County Detention Center awaiting a court appearance.
Deputy Danny Dooley responded to a call from 260 Gibbons Road of an intoxicated male on the porch trying to get in the residence, according to court documents.
Dooley met the man later identified as Hughes in the yard, asked his name and Hughes did not comply, according to court documents.
Hughes placed his hand in his pocket, Dooley told him to remove it, Hughes refused and Dooley grabbed Hughes' arm, according to court documents.
During the ensuing struggle Hughes grabbed a 3-foot long board and struck Dooley in the nose, Dooley used his Taser on Hughes until Hughes rolled on it and broke the wire, Hughes grabbed Dooley between the legs and Dooley punched Hughes in the nose, according to court documents.
Hughes' neighbor, Cindy Potts, had Hughes girlfriend in the home, escaping an earlier altercation with Hughes.
