Traveling on East St. Louis Street, it's hard to miss the large green state signs staking the claim that it is "Putting America to work" through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
West Frankfort Street Commissioner Frank Browning indicated that E.T. Simonds Construction Company won a bid from the state of Illinois to complete the work that is tentatively scheduled to begin Monday.

"They will be mowing, digging up and replacing asphalt, inspecting manholes and storm drains," said Browning.

The project is expected to last approximately 30 days and will cover the east/west portion of St. Louis Street between Bryan and Jefferson Street, as well as North Cherry Street, said Browning.

The Street Commissioner said the construction company will be milling and replacing a significant amount of asphalt from the streets.  He said city street workers will probably assist the company in the hauling from rock of the city's street department shed.

Browning related that the project is estimated at $250,000.
