GateHouse Media Inc. has reorganized its leadership structure recently in southern Illinois and has named a new publisher for this newspaper.
Jim Murphy was named as regional publisher of GateHouse’s southern Illinois publications and also named group publisher of the West Frankfort Daily American, Marion Republican, Benton Evening News, Du Quoin Evening Call, as well as the SI Trader and five other weeklies and shoppers in the area. Nick Monico, vice president for community newspapers of GateHouse Media Inc., announced the appointment.
Murphy comes to the area with a broad background in journalism at upstate New York newspapers including experience in editorial, advertising, digital and marketing operations.
Murphy was most recently a senior publisher in the Journal Register Company, overseeing four N.Y. daily and six weekly newspapers, a shopper, as well as affiliated web sites.
Prior to that he was an advertising and market development director in two markets for Lee Enterprises in N.Y., and also oversaw the newspaper’s web site in one of those markets, Glens Falls, which was named the best community web site in the nation by Suburban Newspapers of America in 2009.
