Sunny skies and warmer weather could have been contributing factors to an automobile-motorcycle accident that sent one man to the hospital via helicopter to be treated for injuries Monday.
A Mt. Vernon man was airlifted from the scene by helicopter for medical treatment Monday afternoon following an incident in which the motorcycle he was driving collided with an automobile on South Logan Street in West Frankfort.
The West Frankfort Police Department received a report of a car-motorcycle accident at the 400 block of South Logan shortly after noon Monday.
Jameson C. Smith received injuries when the motorcycle he was operating struck a car being driven by Emily M. Stenger, 17, of West Frankfort.
Due to the injuries received in the collision, Smith was airlifted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
Stenger did not receive any injuries in the accident.
West Frankfort Chief of Police Jeff Tharp indicated that no charges have been filed thus far in connection to the incident and an investigation is ongoing.
