Zeigler firefighters were busy once again last Saturday morning battling a house fire. Fire destroyed the home located at 101 Baggott St.
That same structure was the scene of a fire Thursday morning. That particular fire was contained to one room of the home. The cause of that fire was undetermined.
The Saturday morning fire was dispatched at 1:59 A.M. “Our first arriving engine was on scene within 4 minutes and reported heavy fire showing upon arrival,” said Lt. Kathie Flowers. The fire was attacked with several hoselines and a deluge gun due to the involvement of the fire when firefighters arrived. Zeigler firefighters received automatic aid from the Royalton Fire Department and mutual aid from West Frankfort. “Four engines, a rescue vehicle and two utility vehicles with a total of seventeen firefighters fought the fire,” added Flowers.
No civilians were injured during the fire, however one firefighter was treated at the scene for a medical problem.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office.
