This time, the dog really was to blame.
A homeowner's dog was the culprit in a Wednesday morning house fire at the residence of Chad Hilliard, located at 203 W. Elm Street, according to West Frankfort Fire Chief Wes Taylor.
Chief Taylor said Hilliard's pet Boxer, Buster, apparently turned on the microwave causing a pastry that was inside to burn up.
A mail carrier saw smoke pushing out from the residence and alerted the authorities.
Chief Taylor said the damage was limited to the microwave.
Firefighters used a positive pressure fan to pull smoke out from the residence.
No one was at the home when the fire occurred and no injuries were reported.
Neighbors found Buster running nearby and safely corralled the pooch.
As of press time there was no word as to whether or not Buster will be receiving any dog treats in the near future.
