As the age-old idiom goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” And neither was West Frankfort. In fact, it’s still being expanded and improved upon and payments for upcoming and ongoing infrastructure projects figure to dominate the discussion once more as members of West Frankfort’s City Council meet Wednesday night at city hall for the first of two regularly scheduled November meetings. The meeting was moved to Wednesday at a previous meeting of the city council due to Veterans Day.
The council is expected consider granting approval for payment in the amount of just under $137,000 to Perry County Construction for the storm pumping station contract ‘A’ and approval of five payments to the Harrisburg-based engineering firm of Brown and Roberts Inc., one for the Hilltop Water Main Extension C and I in the amount of just over $870, another for the I-57/Industrial Park Loop Water main Replacement project totaling just over $2,150, an additional payment for the ‘Big Ditch’ pumping station contract ‘A’ C and I in the amount of just over $3,500, another for the Downtown Streetscape project in the amount of just over $1,500 and the last for Mark Twain Road C and I in the amount of just over $537.
Council members are also expected to discuss approval of partial pay estimate #2 for the Interstate 57/ Industrial Park Loop Water main Replacement project to A&L Construction in the amount (due this period) of $75,196.95, approval of an ordinance regarding the additional annexation of K&E Technical, Inc. and approval for an ordinance to amend the language in ordinance 222.
Also up for council approval is approval for the payment of bills totaling just over $146,000, approval for a resolution for the ‘Fantasy of Lights’ parade to be held on November 25, approval for Huck’s “Caring Kids” project to hold a roadblock on Saturday, November 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the intersection of Routes 149 and 37 and approval of a proclamation declaring December as national Drunk and Drugged Driving (3-D) Prevention Month. Monthly building permits and officer and codes reports will also be given.
