Some Chicago gang leaders are holding a news conference to respond to what they call unfair harassment from Chicago police, and Mayor Richard Daley says the gang members have a "right to complain."
Superintendent Jody Weis is facing mounting criticism for holding a so-called "gang summit" last month. Weis said the message to the gang leaders was if they resort to violence "we'll sharpen our focus on you."
Daley and the gang members held separate news conferences at the same time Thursday. Daley says "everybody complains about the police."
Daley didn't comment about Weis' meeting with the gang leaders. Weis has defended the initiative and previously has received support from Daley and U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald.
