On Saturday, June 20th, the Frankfort Community High School softball program is being honored. There will be a first annual Redbird Alumni game.It has been thirty-five years since the inception of the softball program at FCHS. There will be a game and an alumni banquet.
On the strength of their field events the Redbirds came in second place at the Class 1A Fairfield Sectional. West Frankfort finished with a team score of 75.
The Herrin Tigers amassed 135 points and comfortably won the event. Fairfield, Carterville and Harrisburg rounded out the top five.

Illinois freshman right fielder Willie Argo was a man for all seasons at Davenport (Iowa) Assumption High School.
Named the state's boys athlete of the year by the Des Moines Register and Quad City Times, Argo set a state record with 83 touchdowns in his career in football and served as captain of the all-state team. A four-time state place winner in track, he also finished third twice at 189 pounds at the state wrestling meet.
With Illinois' basketball program gaining momentum and promising recruits, coach Bruce Weber is expected to get a 50 percent raise to $1.5 million per season if the school's board of trustees approve a contract extension during the regularly scheduled meeting Thursday.
The Redbirds have had a rough season. Through the injuries and the bad weather, West Frankfort in many respects has gotten a raw deal on the diamond. Practices and wins were few and far between this season.
"The weather played a huge role in our season," commented West Frankfort head baseball coach Scott Samples. "It's hard to have a normal practice with the weather being so unpredictable this year."
All that changed Monday afternoon. West Frankfort won it's first round Regional game. The 'Birds beat up on the Johnston City Indians 13-3. The 'Birds made quick work of the Indians and the ten rule was in effect.
The 'Birds hosted the Redbird Invite Monday afternoon. On the strength of their field events, West Frankfort came in second place as a team with a score of 69.
