Top spots continue to be "up for grabs" as play heats up at the Bob Whitlow memorial Bocce Courts at Bocce USA for Monday night league teams.
The west court pitted first place Stotlar Lumber against Boneyard Bocce in the first round of play. Herschel Gregge and Pat Hollada lead Boneyard in taking two out of three from the league leaders with scores of 9-5, 9-1 and 4-9. In spite of losing the first two, Stotlar managed to maintain a narrow lead over 2nd place team, McCord's Market.
McCord's also took two of their three games against Severin's All Stars and Stitches. Both teams were a player short and were using subs to fill in for members who were ill. McCord's topped Severin's 9-6 and 9-8 in the first two games. Severin's bounced back in the third, winning it 9-6. Donna Ellis & Beth Lipscomb were the outstanding rollers for McCord's.
In the second round of play, Joyce Fogelman cheered her J&S Pharmacy team to victory in two of the three games played against Southern Illinois Bank with scores of 9-6 and 9-5. The Bank fought back and took the last game 9-6. Julio Carabajal and Tammy Irvin, both subs, had hot hands for the Pharmacy.
On the west court, West Frankfort Lions were no match for Franklin-Williamson Human Services. Sub, John Maleski, did an outstanding job in keeping the Lions from winning even one of the three game series against FWHS, who took the maximum 42 points for the evening.
Both Northern Baptist Church and Galli Auto Body received the 42 points for having a "bye". Play will resume at 6 p.m. Monday night at the courts.
