The Girls' Mustang Softball League took the diamond again on June 13.  Simple Solutions defeated 1st Bank by the final score of 14-3. Simple Solutions coach Jack Calvert said that key hits by Katie Linsley and Bianca Hernandez were what got the offense rolling in the victory.  Mollie Short and Elizabeth Nichols each had a hit and scored a run for 1st Bank.
The West Frankfort Mustang Softball All-Stars started the season with a doubleheader sweep at home against Murphysboro on June 14.  In game one, WF led 13-0 after two innings, and cruised to a 20-8 win.  The WF offense pounded out seven extra base hits, led by the five combined hits of Sam Finn and Jacklynn Calvert.  Teri Summers also smacked a homer in the winning effort.
In the second game of the day, WF again posted 20 runs in a victory, but it was the defense, which held Murphysboro to two runs, that most impressed coach Calvert.  Calvert said the defense was awesome and added that Elizabeth Drone played a great first base and that Teri Summers continued to improve her defense behind the plate.  Sarah Aldridge paced the WF offense with a homerun.
