The FCHS boys' varsity basketball squad dropped to 0-2 in Mid-Winter Classic play Wednesday night, falling to the Carterville Lions 54-42 at Max Morris Gymnasium.

After trailing 27-17 at the end of the first half, the Redbirds quickly cut the Lion lead to 27-24  by reeling off seven straight points to open the third quarter, which included one of Kyle Weeks' five three-pointers on the night.

However, Carterville put together an 11-4 scoring run over the next five minutes to push its lead back up to nine at 38-29 and subsequently roll to 54-42 win.

"I thought we shot the ball much better tonight than we did Monday night," said Toney of his team's effort.

"We had some kids that clanked a few shots the other night step up and knock down some shot assertively."

The Redbirds will be back in action Friday night when they take on Anna-Jonesboro in the third night of boy's Mid-Winter Classic action.
