Rend Lake College coach Ashley Allen recently announced the signing of Thompsonville High School guard Misty Webster and post player Heather Murphy to the 2009-10 Lady Warriors basketball program.
Webster is the daughter of Tom Webster and Dana Vinyard. She joined Allen on-campus Tuesday.
“Misty is kind of a combo guard. She is pretty solid, and she handles the ball well and makes good passes,” Allen said.
Webster stands at 5-8 and 160 pounds. She averaged 23.81 points and 5.48 rebounds per game in her senior season at Thompsonville. She is a member of the 1,000 Point Club and was an all-tournament performer in Hamilton County and at the Bobcat Classic as a junior and senior.
While there is room for improvement, Allen said Webster’s consistency stood out when she saw her play. Thompsonville made it as far as regionals this year. Webster said her mother contacted Allen to see about getting her daughter a look. Allen also noticed Murphy during her recruiting trip to see Webster. She decided to offer each of them a one-year scholarship to RLC.
“Heather is a big body,” Allen said. “She is a big, solid post player who moves her feet well.”
“It’s close to home,” Webster said of RLC. “Their athletics are good. My sister played on the team and I wanted to kind of follow in her footsteps. I heard the coaches were awesome, as well as the teachers.”
She will play her final high school game at 6 p.m., tomorrow night at the 31st Annual Lions Club All-Star Basketball Classic in Waugh Gymnasium at RLC.
