Head coach Matt Hampleman's Boys' and Girls' FCHS Cross Country teams competed in the Benton Quads on Monday afternoon, resulting a third place finish for the Lady Redbirds.

The girls' team ran an especially strong race, placing eight runners in the top 30.  Juniors Laura Dunning (24:26) and Yulia Cool (24:26) led the way for the 'Birds, finishing back-to-back in ninth and 10th place, respectively.

Sophomore Natasha Bender (28:08) was next for the Lady Redbirds, taking 18th place.  Finishing close behind in 20th through 23rd place were freshman Sarafina McKeown (30:46), sophomore Madison Wallace (31:17), sophomore Kendall Presley (31:27) and junior Ashlei Manion (32:15).  Junior Rachel Edwards (33:01) rounded out the scoring for the Lady Redbirds in 29th place.
Sophomores Sydney McPhail and Hannah Eubanks ran but were disqualified for unspecified reasons.

"Our girls ran well," said Hampleman. "We have to get better as a team and continue to make improvements each week."

On the boys' side, senior Dylan Vaughn (21:03) led the Redbirds with a finish in 20th place, followed by junior Justin Eberhardt (21:17) in 22nd.  Sophomore Marshall Porritt (23:10) finished in 32nd place.  Classmate Jacob Wiegand (25:22) completed the Redbird lineup with a 46th place finish.

"The boys ran a solid race," said Hampleman. "Dylan ran the way he is capable and both Justin and Jacob had nice times as well."
