The Redbirds' third try against Herrin failed to be the charm, as the Tigers defeated West Frankfort 70-38 Friday night to complete the three-game regular season sweep of the 'Birds.
Early three-pointers by junior Dylan Vaughn and senior Kendrick Simelton cut the Tiger lead to 7-6 near the midway point of the opening frame, but Herrin countered with an 11-4 over the next five minutes to take a commanding 18-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Tiger senior David Mallow poured in 11 of his game-high 18 points, leading Herrin to a 39-17 halftime advantage.
The Redbirds were unable to cut into the Herrin lead in the second half and the Tigers rolled to the 70-36 win.
West Frankfort will be in action again Saturday night when they take on the Wildcats of Anna-Jonesboro.
