The West Frankfort Girls Mustang All Star softball team welcomed Carterville to Frankfort Community Park for a doubleheader on June, 17. However, once the games began, the welcoming committee got down to business.
West Frankfort made quick work of the visitors by posting a 17-0 victory in four innings as the 10-run rule went into effect.
The WF offense was led by Jacklynn Calvert and Stephanie Tucker tallied who each three hits in the win. Jera Smilinich, Sam Finn and Teri Summers each added a double in the WF offensive onslaught.
Calvert orchestrated a nearly flawless pitching performance. She shutout Carterville on only two hits and struck out seven.
In game two, West Frankfort again crossed the plate early and often. West Frankfort forced the 10-run rule into effect for the second time on the day, winning 11-1 in five innings.
WF received a huge pitching effort from Kailei Broy. Coach Calvert noted that Broy stepped it up and remained in control all game.
Jacklynn Calvert, Elizabeth Drone and Mollie Short paced the WF offense with multiple hits in the game.
The win pushed the WF All Stars record to a perfect 4-0 on the season.
On June 19, The Mustang All Stars took part in the SuperSonic Summer Blast '09 Tournament against Centralia.
West Frankfort made quick work of the tournament's host by a score of 14-3. The offense was powered by Jacklynn Calvert, Sarah Aldridge and Terri Summers, who each had multiple hits on the day.
Calvert was voted game MVP by by opposing coaches for her three for three day at the plate and for a dominating pitching performance in which she recorded all nine outs via strikeout.
The tournament, slated for three days, was shortened due to rain.
In Girls' Mustang Softball League action Simple Solutions defeated SI Bank by a score of 16-4.
Bianca Hernandez paced Simple Solutions by drilling a triple. Daisy Watkins and Jacklynn Calvert each scored three runs in the winning effort.
Calvert and Kourtney McDaniel took care of the pitching duties for Simple Solutions.
Jana Wolleson and Sam Finn each had hits for SI Bank.
