At Monday night's monthly meeting, the Frankfort Community Park Board moved forward on several key items, including settling the previous month's tabled trash service issue and setting a date for this year's annual Independence Day fireworks display.

Picking up where they left off last month, the board reviewed bids from three different southern Illinois trash services before voting to accept the lowest bid, which was from Midwest Waste.  Members accepted the bid on the condition that the annual figure for the service is set at $2,215.  Board President Brett Dunston said he and the board would prefer to not sign a contract with Midwest, but would consider the notion for a guaranteed set price.

The park's current trash service contract was signed in 2005 by a former Aquatic Center director without the knowledge of the board.  The contract was then re-enacted in 2008 by an automatic renewal clause which runs through 2011.
